Civil Division
The Civil Division of the District Attorney’s Office serves as the County’s law firm in all non-criminal business and matters.  This division consists of Assistant District Attorneys and support staff who represent and assist Oklahoma County elected officials and employees in their lawful duties and responsibilities.  The lawyers in this division also defend tort claims and lawsuits filed against the county and its employees and handle unemployment cases, EEOC complaints, federal litigation and the review of county contracts.  They also respond to official requests for legal opinions and provide legal advice during public meetings to assure compliance with Oklahoma’s Open Meetings and Open Records Act.   The Civil Division also files and prosecutes asset forfeiture cases to remove drug money and instrumentalities used by criminal organizations to break the law, the aim being to forfeit these to the State of Oklahoma to be used for the good of the citizens.  This Division also represents the State of Oklahoma in bond forfeitures where criminal defendants fail to appear for court and a Judge has ruled that the bond money be forfeited, and in mental health matters, regulation of beer licenses and process servers and all other civil matters involving the county.
